The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Is Faster Than Some Supercars On The Nurburgring
The Chevrolet Camaro is an American car. Therefore, it can only go in a straight line and has the dynamic ability of a blancmange, right?
Woah there, Clarkson. This is 2016, and America now knows how to build a ruddy good muscle car.
The Camaro is decent as standard, but in full-fat ZL1 guise it’s a track-munching monster.
With a 650bhp V8, sticky tyres, aerodynamic parts fitted to the exterior and clever tech helping to put the power down it’s no surprise. And Chevrolet has put its money where its mouth would be if it were a human and not a company.
It has released the on-board footage of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 absolutely flying around the Nurburgring, posting a time of 7m 29.6sec, which is really rather fast.
How fast? Well, that lap is quicker than a Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, Porsche 911 GT2 and McLaren 650S Spider. It’s faster than a freakin’ Koenigsegg CCX, for goodness sake!
This is Christian von Koenigsegg right now:
What’s perhaps most impressive of all is that the driver never actually changes gear. Instead, they leave it in the automatic transmission’s ‘Track’ mode to shift itself.
Take that, all you boisterous track-day enthusiasts who claim computers could never replace humans! Watch and learn…
