Classic car values go sky high as Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 fetches more than £100,000 at auction
If you’re a fast Ford enthusiast with plenty of disposable cash, you’ll be kicking yourself for missing out on this.
The Silverstone Classic is always guaranteed to be the place to see a wide variety of incredible cars, not least the ones that are actually up for sale.
Among the bounty of offerings this year from Silverstone Auctions was this epic 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500.
The Sierra Cosworth has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and this example has covered a mere 10,733 miles, an astonishingly low distance for a car like this.
This was reflected at the auction, with the car selling for a massive £114,750, which was £24,750 above the lower estimate.
Silverstone Auctions said the car had “enjoyed a very quiet life for the last 26 years”, having been recommissioned by Cosworth specialist John Taylor in order to be presented in an original and mechanically sound condition.
Guy Lees-Milne, general manager of Silverstone Auctions, said the Sierra Cosworth RS500 was a “true collectors’ item” and this particular car could be “the lowest mileage example in existence”.
