Drifting Will Be Possible In The Electric Future – As 79-Year-Old Ex-Rally Champ Shows
A common perception of hybrid vehicles is that they are as dull as those who prefer conservation over the loud roar of a V10. However, there is often an exception to the rule.
The BMW i3 may not be one of the first motors that come to mind when thinking of possible driftmobiles, but in the right hands it can match the best for sideways action, as a video from DPC Cars shows.
Finnish rallying icon Rauno Aaltonen, the 79-year-old former champion of both British and Finnish rally tournaments and six-time Safari Rally runner-up, took on the challenge of drifting the i3 and produced a performance worthy of a rallying veteran.
The dirt road and rear-wheel-drive capabilities aid in sliding the hybrid around, but Aaltonen’s skill is the biggest factor in the i3 taking to the slippery dirt surface like a duck to water. He used his decades of expertise in a manner sure to turn heads, and some might now see the i3 in a different light.
