Ford dresses man up as seat to see reactions to autonomous cars
With autonomous cars creeping up on us, have you ever thought how you’d respond to seeing a vehicle driving along with no driver?
Well, that’s exactly what Ford and Virginia Tech University seem to have wondered for you and decided to put it to the test — kind of.
Although the Ford Transit used appears entirely autonomous from the outside, there is in fact a man in there dressed as a seat. Reactions ranged from oblivious to the fact that anything was out of the ordinary to totally bamboozled.
Ford also used the chance to test out a new light bar technology. Placed at the top of the windscreen, the string of white lights signal what the car is going to do next.
We’d love to see those lights show some emotion. Imagine them flashing red if someone cut the car up…
