Jenson Button Disqualified From Triathlon For Going Too Fast
Jenson Button may not be as fast as he used to be, but he’s still quick enough to get banned for it.
He’s in semi-retirement from the cut and thrust of Formula 1, so these days he’s indulging in his back-up passion of triathlon racing.
Triathlon is a ‘sport’ that involves swimming, cycling and running, each for absolutely ages, in what sounds like the most horrifying way to spend a day, and it’s considered one of the hardest physical endurance challenges in the world.
While competing in an ‘Ironman’ triathlon challenge – which doesn’t involve flying around in a red and gold metal suit – Jens mistakenly forgot to slow down during a particular part of the cycling section for a restriction made for safety reasons. Still, it’s a nice bike (pictured above).
When the 37-year old F1 World Champion reached the end of the race in California, he thought he’d finished third in his age group and qualified for the World Championships in Tennessee, but was instead disqualified.
Hard luck, Jenson, but at least you don’t have to dawdle round in a McLaren this year.
