New Mazda MX-5 Goes Head To Head With Original
Mazda claims that its new compact, lightweight MX-5 roadster channels the spirit of the original 80s machine. So what better way to find out than by pitting them against each other on a track?
This is exactly what Mazda has done, to find out not only which version is faster, but also which one is the more fun to drive. On the starting line is a 1990 model driven by endurance racer Jade Paveley and a new model driven by Owen Mildenhall.
To keep the race close, the old car gets a four second head start on the Circuit De Calafat in Catalonia, Spain, with Mildenhall left on the grid.
Four seconds may sound like a hefty head start, but the new car benefits from 25 years of tyre, suspension and engine technology. But is that enough to help the new car best its great grandfather?
Find out in the video below.
