Mazda MX-5 RF’s Retractable Roof Is Pure Mechanical Ballet

There’s nothing that engineering nerds love more than a well-oiled machine.

They – and everyone else with eyes – will LOVE this machine in particular. The latest version of Mazda’s new MX-5 – the RF – comes with a gorgeous hard top instead of the fabric roof, complete with a buttressed rear section.

With pricing and specs announced for the car this week, Mazda has also revealed a cool video of the roof in operation.

Filmed as a skeleton cutaway so that you can see the whole mechanism working to open the roof, the sequence is like a mechanical ballet.
