Nissan Adds Tracks To An X-Trail And It’s Awesome
Nissan’s X-Trail is a pretty decent off-roader, but what would you do if you really wanted one and found it wasn’t quite off-roadery enough for you?
Timed to hit the 2017 New York International Auto Show, Nissan has the answer with the ‘Trail Warrior’ – a rather extensive suite of modifications to the Rogue, which is the US market name for the X-Trail.
The Trail Warrior looks like it’s headed into a military surplus store and everything has stuck to it on the way through. For starters, there’s an amazing digital camouflage wrap reminiscent of the Navy Seals Type II desert camo, along with LED trail lights, an alloy roof rack, tinted headlights and a really meaty winch.
But you can’t really help noticing that the Trail Warrior’s party piece is its… ‘wheels’.
The regular rim and tyre assembly has been replaced with American Track Truck’s ‘Dominator’ tracks. These colossal caterpillars are 1.2 metres long, 75cm high and almost 40cm wide – almost as wide as two of the original car’s tyres side by side.
Remarkably, very little else has been altered for the car. The Trail Warrior retains the US market Rogue’s 2.5-litre petrol engine, with 170bhp and 130Nm of torque, as well as the Xtronic CVT gearbox. In fact, the only real physical alteration is to the suspension and wheel wells to accommodate the tracks.
So if you want to be the coolest mum or dad at the beach this summer, you know what you need to buy!
