Perez vs Ocon: The fight between Force India’s F1 drivers

If you were disappointed by Mayweather vs McGregor then perhaps Formula One’s biggest fight will be more to your taste.

The Force India Formula One team, who debuted a pink livery for 2017, have seen their drivers at war all summer long.

Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon have made a habit of knocking chunks from each other’s cars, and it came to a head at last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, where the pair made contact with each other in two separate incidents.

The race, which took place at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit, started off with a bang as the Force India drivers tried to fit two cars into a space made for one on the run to Eau Rogue.

Somehow, both cars continued undamaged.

However, in the closing stages of the race, Perez appeared to shut the door on Ocon, causing the Frenchman’s car to shed half of its front wing – the debris from the impact causing a safety car to come out. Perez didn’t escape the contact scot-free, though; the right rear tyre of the Mexican’s car punctured in short order.

While both cars finished, the incident cost the team valuable championship points, which could ultimately cost them millions of pounds in prize money come the end of the season.

Force India’s chief operating officer, Otmar Szafnauer, made it clear to the press that while the pair have been allowed to race before, this will no longer be the case:

That’s them told then – and in no uncertain terms!

With all of this in mind, we’d suggest that residents in the Silverstone area – where the team are based – watch out for fisticuffs between a pair of irate Formula One drivers. Will it go longer than 10 rounds…?
