Are Supercars Just Too Slow For You? How About Buying This 2,200hp Lambo?

The problem with the Bugatti Veyron and Koenigsegg One:1 is that they’re just too slow. Said no-one. Ever.

That doesn’t stop outfits such as Underground Racing of North Carolina building cars that make the fastest production cars look like mobility scooters. These chaps are obsessed with building Lamborghinis to break quarter-mile, half-mile and mile drag racing records – and now’s your chance to own one.

Posted on Autotrader, this Underground Racing Lamborghini Gallardo will set you back £199,995. For your money you get the complete Gallardo experience – no stripped-out racers here – with a twin turbocharged version of the 5.2-litre V10 engine. Originally producing 552hp, there’s now more than 2,200hp coming out at the crank.

You can turn down the wick if you wish. The engine has four settings, with the lowest being roughly 1,100hp at the wheels and, extraordinarily, on regular superunleaded fuel. Higher settings will require more specialist fuels than you can buy from the supermarket though, with the top 2,200hp setting – equating to somewhere north of 1,750hp at the wheels – needing high-octane racing fuel.

What’s the result of all this power? Eight-second quarter-miles – 1.2 seconds faster than a Veyron…

And the engine’s no hand grenade either – this Gallardo has 20,000 miles on the clock!
